STERILON – C (Antiseptic Solution)
A broad spectrum chemical germicide and antiseptic Sterilon-C is effective against Gram +ve and Gram -ve Bacteria, Enveloped viruses, Bacterial spores and Fungi.
Chlorhexidine Gluconate IP 7.5% v/v
Strong Cetrimide Solution BP. Equivalent to Cetrimide IP 15% w/v
Mode of Action: -
In low concentrations, positively charged Chlorhexidine ( C22H30Cl2N10).molecules (Cations) are attracted to negative charges on Bacterial cell wall, disrupt the cell membrane causing leakage of intracellular components (Potassium, Phosphorous and Pentose) resulting in bacteriostatic effect
In high concentrations, Chlorhexidine induces precipitation of cytoplasmic proteins and nucleic acids of bacterial cell; inhibits AT Pase, resulting in bactericidal effect.
Cetrimide in aqueous solution disassociates in to larger quantity of complex cations, which affect bacterial cell membrane. It has activity against Gr+ve Bacteria and fungi.
Salient features: -
Sterilon-C : at 0.01% concentration it completely inhibits all bacteria commonly isolated from hospital areas ( viz Enetrobacter; Staphylococcus aureus; E coli; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; Klebsiella ; Proteus mirabilis; Alkaligenes faecalis; Citrobacter; Arizona; B. subtilis and S typhi…) in the order of frequency .
Sterilon-C : Is also effective on Viruses; Bacterial spores and fungi
Sterilon-C : Has a persistent effect, lasting for at least six hours after application
Sterilon-C : Efficacy is higher at alkaline pH
Sterilon-C : Due to its ionic mode of action on cell membrane, development of Bacterial resistance to Sterilon -C is nil.
Sterilon-C is an ideal disinfectant and antiseptic for multiple use in Hospitals and Pharma Industries to prevent nosocomial infections
1. Not to be used near eyes and ears.
2. Not to be used on infants below 2 months of age.
3. Don’t use hard water to dilute Sterilon-C.
4. Don't use Sterilon-C with soap.
5. Keep away from the reach of children.
6. Keep in cool and dry place
